Spring has officially arrived on Nantucket and with the warming weather comes more ways to enjoy the trails and properties all across the island! From bike rides, family walks, dog play dates, or a guided walk by one of our NCF Ecologists, we invite you to explore our properties.
Make sure to check out our remaining few Community Winter Walks to learn about our ongoing watershed-level restoration project at Windswept Bog, the effects of last summer’s southern pine beetle infestation, or to experience the great views at Folger’s Hill in the Moors.
As you walk the trails and beaches of Nantucket be on the lookout for emerging spring species! Out at Eel Point and Madaket you may start to notice American Oystercatchers and other shorebirds returning to nest, or horseshoe crabs breeding in the shallow waters. If you live near wetland areas you probably have already started to hear the chorus of spring peepers at dusk. Below are just a few examples of animals you may now start to see (or hear) around the island.
See you on the trails!
