April 23 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Join us in celebrating International Dark Sky Week this year with an unforgettable evening of stargazing at Altar Rock, in the Middle Moors, hosted by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, Nantucket Lights, and the Maria Mitchell Association. This free, family-friendly community event offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the night sky while also learning about light pollution and the importance of preserving Nantucket’s natural starlit beauty. Guided by expert stargazers, attendees will discover constellations and celestial wonders in a pristine, low-light environment.
Enjoy an awe-inspiring and immersive experience of a Nantucket night under the stars. Parking is available along Altar Rock Road, with assistance from our volunteers in getting to Altar Rock in the dark. Don’t miss this chance to connect, learn, and be inspired by the beauty of the night sky. This program is geared toward all ages, but children are welcome to register with an adult guardian. At least one adult must sign up with children. Dress for the current weather conditions and wear comfortable shoes as you will will walk up to Altar Rock. Blankets, chairs, and carpooling are encouraged for your comfort!
The rain/cloud date will be Thursday April 24. Advance registration is strongly encouraged for attendance and weather related updates.
