The Nantucket Conservation Foundation hosts the following scholarship opportunities for graduates of Nantucket High School that are pursuing degrees in enviromental studies, science, biology, or a related field.
George A. Fowlkes Environmental Studies Scholarship
The George A. Fowlkes Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships to qualified graduates of Nantucket High School seniors or other island residents enrolled in post-secondary school study with a concentration in environmental studies or a closely related field. In honor of George’s 21 years of leadership and service to the Foundation, winners are awarded $1,000 scholarships, to help offset the costs of pursuing undergraduate or advanced degrees.
The Ferguson Family Book Award
The Ferguson Family Education Fund was established by the family of Elizabeth Ford Reighley in 1983 to commemorate her deep commitment to conservation on Nantucket. The fund is designed to help the Foundation educate the public about the fragility of our Island’s natural resources. The Reighley/Ferguson family-funded program provided generous support to purchase ecology books for students to enjoy and continue their academic enrichment.
The Nantucket Public School Teachers decide the recipient of this award for the Foundation.
