Meet Our Photographers

Daniel Sutherland

We are often asked about the beautiful landscape photographs of our properties that are in our Annual Report, web-site and other promotional materials. For over ten years, the Foundation has been fortunate to be the beneficiary of the work of Daniel Sutherland. Prior to moving to the Island year round in 1990, he studied photography at The Art Institute of Boston and The Maine Photographic Workshops, and then spent three years working in fashion and commercial studios in and around Boston. As evident in his work, his true passion are the land and seascapes of the variety of conservation lands on the Island. As Daniel notes, “My empathy toward the landscape is a natural outgrowth of having spent the summers of my life here. A deep connection to the environment matured and found expression in photography while living here year-round for the past 20 years. Generosity, foresight and largess by current stewards of this magnificent island ensure that the exemplary standard and tradition of conservation continues.”

Greg Hinson

A licensed physician, Dr. Greg Hinson somehow finds time to satisfy another of his passions, photography. Inspired by a geekiness that loves the interplay between computers and cameras, and by the natural beauty around him, Greg has an innate ability to capture images of ordinary scenes in extraordinary ways.  As evidenced by the photographs on this website, some of his most popular, and favorite, subjects are found in the open spaces of Foundation properties.  Greg has always been very generous in allowing us to use his photographs and for this we are extremely grateful.  His photography can also be seen at the Artists Association of Nantucket and online at www.nantucketstock.com.

In addition to Daniel Sutherland & Dr. Greg Hinson, we would like to thank the following people who very generously donated the use of their images for this site:
